Lucky pennies for Canine Heroes
Thanks to our supporters we have been able to send “lucky pennies” straight to our canine heroes in the field. Amazingly, these lucky pennies are being used to train a new member of the anti-poaching dog team, a new puppy called Rogue! We plan, with your help, to raise more pennies for essential first aid kits for the rangers and the dogs to help them with their vital work. You can see more here

‘Lush’ support!
Fantastic news! RhiNOremedy with Wild Act Vietnam as part of the Rhino Alliance has been awarded a Lush Charity Pot Grant for a new project commencing later this year: ‘Dispelling the Myth: protecting rhinos and people.’ This project is to be delivered by Wild Act in Vietnam and involves workshops in medical facilities run by medical staff for patients and their families to ensure that they stay on track with effective medication and treatment and also learn the truth about rhino horn - it cannot help them. Learn more here!

- Monkey conquers Snowdon!
Congratulations to a little dog that climbed a big mountain for wildlife. As part of a United For Wildlife campaign and to raise funds for our education work and an elite dog team on Ol Pejeta Conservancy Kenya, ‘Monkey’ the miniature Schnauzer has helped to tackle the poaching issue from both ends. Find out how here:
- A thank you to “Paw 4 Thought”
All at RhiNOremedy would like to say thank you for the support of Cheshire volunteers based with Paw4Thought. They work hard to raise funds for animal charities. They have hosted our own volunteer stalls at events and also have recently donated proceeds (£300) from one such event to our cause. Work like ours would go nowhere without such support and dedication.
- “Stop Wildlife Trade”
Our article “in our hands” about the plight of the rhinoceros has been included in the Training Manual for the Chengdu Panda Base, Wildlife Trade Programme, also supported by Chester Zoo. Designed to “confront the wildlife trade through public education”, the Panda Base and their education team are working hard to reach out help raise awareness of wildlife trade issues and impacts in China. The Be Powerful animation developed by us this year is also being used to support this project.
- Be Powerful Animation
Launched in summer 2014 the animation is joining demand reduction efforts in China and Vietnam. It is now being used by our partners on this project, the Chengdu Panda Base and their education team, and both WildAid (China and Vietnam) and United For Wildlife (UK) have their own version to use. WE are hoping this can assist efforts to reduce demand for rhino horn. The animation shows the impact of the positive decision not to buy rhino horn. See the animation here and read more here
- An education and illegal trade monitoring outpost

Illegal Wildlife Trade Symposium and Conference, February 2014
The events of 11th-13th February 2014 will hopefully make a huge difference in the fight against illegal wildlife crime. RhiNOremedy attended and exhibited a poster at the two-day symposium, hosted by United for Wildlife and ZSL, and also attended the reception for the government conference. At the symposium, a mix of speakers including NGO's and private consultants presented and conversed with delegates to highlight was has and is being done, and suggested what steps could now be taken. The Duke of Cambridge added his voice at the symposium and, alongside William Hague, at the reception for the government conference (13th February). It is hoped that the commitments made by the governments of the 46 countries and 11 UN organisations that attended that day, will make an impact and turn the tide in favour of the worlds threatened species.
You can see our poster about our 'Be Powerful' campaign here
Enjoy zooming in on some snippets taken from speakers at the symposium here
Importantly, you can also see the declaration signed on February 13th here

A Contentious Issue
The Earthwatch debate 2013 explored the question: is it time to legalise trade in endangered species to save them. RhiNOremedy joined a full house and there was certainly high energy in the auditorium! We would love to hear your thoughts, email us. You can also read our summary and take a look at some of our own thoughts too here.

Royal support for species threatened by wildlife crime

Article: In our Hands - the survival of the rhinoceros
It is great to share with you that we had an article published in the journal Giant Panda which is produced by the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding in China. This journal has a good outreach in China, with around 5000 hard copies printed. The text is in both Chinese and English.

Stalls 2013
We have a busy schedule through-out this year. We will be working to raise awareness about illegal wildlife trade and how it is affecting our iconic species such as rhinos, tigers, bears and elephants. We are also selling all we can, including handmade and donated items. This raises valuable funds for our projects. We are hugely grateful to friends, volunteers and supporters who help all they can with these events.

Christmas Tree Festival 2012
RhiNOremedy decorated a Christmas tree for a tree festival held during the last weekend of November. The tree was called ‘Existence’ and aimed to show why species threatened by extinction due to illegal trade should be protected for the future. Decorations were sustainable (e.g. dried autumn leaves, popcorn garlands) and designed with positive messages.
